Oggi 14 luglio 2009 giungiamo ad un primo traguardo per questa storica distribuzione, ossia la fine del ciclo “vitale” della prima versione di questa giovane distribuzione GNU/LInux con supporto a lungo termine. Eravamo nel giugno 2006 a poco più di due anni dalla sua nascita.
Ubuntu announced the release of 6.06 over three years ago, on June 1, 2006.
At that time, Ubuntu committed to its first long-term support (LTS) cycle,
with security and critical fixes for three years on the desktop and five
years on the server. The desktop support period is now at its end, and
Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Desktop will reach end of life on Tuesday, July 14, 2009.
At that time, Ubuntu Security Notices will no longer include information or
updated packages for the Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Desktop.Server Edition will continue to receive maintenance updates through June
2011. The list of source packages which will continue to receive security
updates for Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Server can be found at
http://people.ubuntu.com/~ubuntu-security/dapper/supported.txt for your
reference.The supported upgrade path from Ubuntu 6.06 LTS is via Ubuntu 8.04 LTS.

'mbah, qui se proprio ci dobbiamo vantare, anch'io l'ho installata ed usata, e non provata!, sin da quando era in beta, e se non ricordo male erano i primissimi giorni di marzo 2006. 😛

Io Ubuntu l’avevo già messa sul mio Acer TM803 a metà settembre 2004, prima che ci fosse il primo rilascio stabile!
